Community Association Law
What is a “Community Association Lawyer”?
The concept of a “community association lawyer” is a relatively recent development. For many years, real estate lawyers, business litigators, and transactional attorneys stumbled into representing community associations. When a community association had a specific problem, such as a construction defect, they would, for example, seek out a construction defect lawyer. Or if the association needed to draft a construction contract for repair, the Association might seek out a transactional lawyer. Those lawyers would often end up representing community associations in a narrow lane. At the same time, disputes within Associations are on the rise and associations face potential threats, including litigation, on a regular basis.

They gathered the signatures and filed the paperwork to found the Community Association Section of the Utah State Bar. Robert was the inaugural president of the Bar’s Community Association Section, and recently completed a term as president of the Utah Chapter of the Community Association Institute.
